Course Overview

This course teaches how to build IGC glossary, generate data lineage, impact analysis, and explore open IGC and other advanced features. Students will also learn how to create Business terms, categories, assign IT assets to Business Assets, generate IGD reports, implement best practices, and create policies and others based on their Business needs. This course also covers creating stewards, extended mappings, importing metadata using IMAM, istool and others.

Day 1:

• Introduction to IGC and IGC InfoSphere Suite Roles
• Describe and create Business Categories and Terms
• Creating Business Policies and governing rules
• Creating Stewards, labels, External assets and custom attributes
• Review the Policy Hierarchy and Business Category hierarchy
• Describe Catalog workflow
• Generate a workflow for one Business category from creation to review, approval and publishing the catalog
• Introduction to Metadata and types of Metadata
• Introduction to Metadata Asset Manager IMAM
• Importing metadata assets using IMAM
• Assign IT Assets to Business Assets
• Generate Data lineage
• Generate Impact Analysis

• Create Query on Business Asset and export results
• Create Query on IT Assets and export results

Day 2:

• Describe a Data rule
• Create a Data rule in Information Analyzer
• Assign the data rule to a governing rule
• Introduction to IGD and overview of IGD reports

• Using IGD generate below reports related to Data rule
– Generate rules implemented with Data rule

• Generate different IGD charts

• Introduction to Catalog Management covering below topics

– Terms History

• Exporting the Glossary contents into below formats and specify the difference
– CSV
– XML

• Import the Glossary contents using below formats and specify the difference

• Create extension mappings within extension mapping document

Day 3:

• Introduction to Open IGC
• Call IGC Rest Api and explore on how to use Open IGC
• Enhanced features related to IGC Rest Api and IGC custom assets
• Create a category using IGC Rest Api
• Update a Term using IGC Rest Api
• Search an asset using IGC Rest Api
• Automate assignment of terms to Information Assets
• Introduction to istool utility to migrate IGC code
• Run istool to migrate below IGC assets from lower environment to higher environment
– DataStage jobs
– Database tables and columns
– Few of other IGC assets

Day 4:

• IGC Application maintenance

• Walk through of any new features added in IGC 11.7.1.1
– Any changes to application administration
– Any changes to asset relationships, new assets, workflows
– Changes to IGC security roles
– Governance Monitor – Any new capabilities with dashboard, including any changes to SQL views
– Any features available in 11.7.1.1 but have been removed in IBM Cloud Pak for Data Watson catalog Knowledge

• Additional features added in IBM Cloud Pak for Data IBM Knowledge Catalog (Watson Catalog Knowledge) like Stewardship center, event types and others which are not present in IGC 11.7.1.1
• Impact of migrating the code from IGC 11.7.1.1 to IBM Knowledge Catalog
